Let me out!

James Taylor argues in Poetic Knowledge that kids need to spend time outside. So bad have things become that The Charlotte Observer wrote an article about parents who try to spend time outside with their kids. This article underscores the real reason education is dying in America.

  1. Great article! This is what we have done with our boys for years. Of course, they’re older now–22 and 17, but we have taken evening walks (long ones) for the past 10+ years, and we don’t watch TV, nor have they played video games or participated in organized sports. On our walks, we are usually the only family walkling together (and we walk even in inclement weather, so during the winter we’re usually the only people out!). Our 17 year old still walks with us every night, and when our older son is home (as he is now for Thanksgiving), he walks with us, too. What a blessing it has been over the years! The things we have observed and discussed are simply priceless.
